Game Release Dates January 2026 – What’s New on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC

After a long, action-packed year of video game releases in 2025, the video games industry is set to pack an even bigger punch in 2026. Later in the year will see major releases for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, as well as a host of third-party developers and publishers, and even a brand-new Grand Theft Auto game.
January will be a quieter month for games compared to some later months in the year, but it’s still set to see a host of high-quality games released, starting with a big upgrade to “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” for the Nintendo Switch 2, the highly-anticipated release of free-to-play game “Arknights: Endfield,” and many more.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (January 15)
Release platforms: Switch 2
The biggest game of 2020 is getting a massive upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a boost to the game’s resolution up to 4K, newly-introduced mouse controls for redecorating, microphone integration, and the ability to invite up to 12 players to an island for online multiplayer fun. The same day will see the release of version 3.0 of the game for both Switch and Switch 2, bringing a host of free new features for players on both platforms.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon (January 15)
Release platforms: PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, PC
The thirteenth game in the long-running RPG series, “The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon” was first released for the PS4 and PS5 in Japan in September 2024. Now, almost 18 months later, the game has been localized into English, and it’s getting a much wider release, including the Switch, Switch 2, and PC.
MIO: Memories in Orbit (January 20)
Release platforms: PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PC
One of the smaller games releasing this month, “MIO: Memories in Orbit” is a highly anticipated metroidvania platforming game developed by independent French developer Douze Dixièmes. The game wowed audiences with its bright, colorful, hand-drawn artwork when it was first announced in 2024, and early previews have been very positive, making it one to keep an eye on.
Arknights: Endfield (January 22)
Release platforms: PS5, PC, iOS, Android
“Arknights” has been one of the most popular mobile games in recent history, though its hybrid tactical RPG/tower defense gameplay certainly wasn’t for everybody. Its followup, “Arknights: Endfield,” takes a pivot to a more traditional semi-open world action RPG, akin to something like Genshin Impact, while adding new twists like base-building and combo skills. The best part is that it’s free-to-play, so players won’t have to pay anything to get started.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (January 22)
Release platforms: Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S
After a lengthy period of PlayStation exclusivity, “Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade” is finally about to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. The first part of a trilogy of games remaking and reimagining the classic “Final Fantasy 7”, “FF7 Remake Intergrade” includes both an enhanced version of the first chapter of the story and Intermission, an additional bridging story introducing Wutai ninja Yuffie Kisaragi.
Highguard (January 26)
Release platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
“Highguard” capped off The Game Awards 2025 as the show’s final announcement, and with many of the developers behind “Titanfall” and “Apex Legends” spearheading this PVP raid shooter, it’s not hard to see why. Gamers were somewhat mixed on the game’s announcement, but its unique art style and setting, along with its tight-looking gameplay, should help it along when it releases late in the month.
Code Vein 2 (January 30)
Release platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Finally, rounding out the month is Bandai Namco with the followup to 2019’s soulslike “Code Vein.” “Code Vein 2” is somewhat of a soft reboot for the game, with an all-new setting and characters, and promises a greater focus on boss battles, deeper customization and combat options, and a more open world.
